Passport Re-issue Criteria

Is your passport expiring or pages full? Know identifying the right category for renewal and avoiding application rejection.

Reason 1: Validity Expiry

Passports are valid for 10 years. You must renew it to continue traveling.

When to Apply?

  • Within 1 year of expiry (e.g., if expiring in Dec 2025, apply from Dec 2024).
  • Within 3 years after expiry (No extra verification needed usually).
  • After 3 years of expiry (Requires fresh police verification usually).

Reason 2: Exhaustion of Pages

If your visa pages are full but validity remains, you still need a new booklet.

Recommendation: Apply for a Jumbo Booklet (60 Pages) if you travel frequently to avoid this issue again.

Reason 3: Change in Personal Particulars

You need a Re-issue if any of these printed details change:

Name / Surname
Address
Spouse Name (Add/Delete)
Date of Birth (Correction)
Place of Birth
Signature

Documents Required for Re-issue

  • Old Passport (In Original) Must be surrendered for cancellation. It will be returned with holes punched in it.
  • Self-attested Photocopies First two and last two pages of old passport.
  • Proof for Changes (If any) If address is different from old passport, provide new address proof (Aadhaar/Utility Bill).
