Two Paths: Pre vs Post Verification
Pre-Police Verification
This happens before your passport is issued. The police verify your address and criminal record first. Only after a "Clear" report does the RPO print your passport.
Post-Police Verification
Your passport is issued first. The verification happens after you receive the booklet. This is common for Tatkaal applications with valid Annexure F or for minor renewals.
What to Show the Police Officer?
When the officer visits your home (or asks you to visit the Thana), carry these originals + 2 photocopies sets.
- Aadhaar Card (Identity & Address)
- Voter ID / Driving License
- Proof of Address (Utility Bill/Rent Agreement)
- Two Passport Sized Photos
- Affidavits (if any, for name change etc.)
- Educational Certificates (10th/12th)
Decoding Your Status
Clear
No adverse records found. Applicant resides at the given address. Passport will be issued.
Adverse
Police found a discrepancy in address or a criminal record. Passport issuance is withheld.
Incomplete
Police could not complete the report (e.g., house locked, insufficient docs). Re-verification needed.
Got an 'Adverse' Report?
Don't panic. Most adverse reports are due to address confusion. We help you clear them with the RPO.
