Case 1: Lost or Stolen Passport
If your passport is lost or stolen, you must report it immediately to prevent misuse.
Mandatory Requirement: FIR
You must file an FIR (First Information Report) or NCR at the nearest police station. The original FIR copy is required at the Passport Seva Kendra.
Case 2: Damaged Passport
Damage is categorized into two types:
- Partially Damaged Name, photo, and passport number are legible. You can apply for "Re-issue" without special penalty in some cases, but usually, it's treated as damage.
- Fully Damaged Booklet is torn, burnt, or details are washing away. You must apply under the "Damaged" category and produce the damaged booklet at the PSK.
How to Apply for Duplicate
The process is similar to re-issue, but you must select "Lost/Damaged" in the application reasoning.
